The core component of this test system, setcom’s revolutionary S-CAT 6000 series generic hardware, provides all your required testing essentials for a minimal capital investment. The system offers maximum reliability due to a simple HW configuration based on industry standard PC components and RF modules. setcom’s S-CAT 6020 can also seamlessly integrate with any external RF Units (network simulators or real network) via software drivers, therefore protecting your investments in RF equipment. These drivers may be custom-built to your specific requirements. All testing is independent of the physical layer; regardless of whether an MMS is transmitted using an UMTS data channel, a single-slot GPRS channel, a multi-slot EDGE channel, or any other coding scheme, there is simply no impact on the test result and the pass/fail criteria.

Further options, application packages and additional or revised Test Cases can be added at any time. setcom continuously (re)validates all relevant Test Cases and then makes them immediately available for S-CAT 6020 users, as part of the annual support and maintenance programme.

GERAN / UTRAN / CDMA2000 / TD-SCDMA / LTE-multi-media testing

Since the roots of multi-media application testing emerged from the MMS testing, back in late 2004, all early testing was done over the GERAN air interface such as GPRS for 2G GSM.  The importance of applications conformance, interoperability and quality assurance testing was identified as the key to better end user experience and more robust products.  The testing was rapidly adopted also for other standards beyond GERAN.  The introduction of Video Telephony test program was the first step to UTRAN only testing, 3G WCDMA, whereas today CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA mobiles have their own multi-media applications testing programme.  The majority of testing is basically very similar, hence the test programme, test focus and test specifications might vary over all those technologies.

setcom's highly experienced development team is already working on the next generation of the 4G bearer technology LTE and its related multi-media applications testing. State-of-the-art LTE test systems are on the way to be deployed to the market soon.  setcom offers for all of these technologies and test programmes multi-media testing focussed test system solutions, and is an integral member of important consortiums defining industry test standards such as GCF, PTCRB, CCF, and TCG.

For those focusing more on development and quality assurance type testing, the S-CAT 6020 also facilitates a new industry standards setting feature called Multi-Application Testing (Multi-AE testing).  When operating in this mode, S-CAT can test maximum of three applications of your SW implementation under such strength conditions.  It is possible to test for example the behaviour of a terminal when receiving MMS during a Video Telephony call while the operator remotely starts DM interactions.

Remote access via graphical user interface

The S-CAT 6020 features a built-in graphical user interface (GUI) opening up a whole new world of progressive testing technology. It goes without saying that there are OS-independent remote GUI software packages available to connect the S-CAT 6020 over the LAN – or for your colleagues to hook up to the system within their individual working environments.
